Account languages can be managed via your main menu bar at Manage > Languages
Operating in the travel and tourism industry, chances are your business receives bookings from all across the globe. It may, therefore, be important to offer your products and services in languages other than the native tongue of your business. Checkfront is, therefore, pleased to offer multiple language options for you and your customers.
Activating a Language
To activate a language in your account, navigate to Manage > Languages > Customer Languages in your main menu.
If you haven’t yet configured the default system language for your account, you can do so via the main menu at Manage > Setup > Locale
Once you arrive at the languages page, it will look like this:
Toggle a language on or off using the switch in the left column. An active language will show a green switch with the word ‘ON’ displayed, as seen in the image above.
Editing a Language
To edit a language, simply click on the Edit button in the column to the right of the language name, as seen below.
From here, you can edit your booking fields, notifications, parameters, statuses and more.
Enter the word, or string of words, into the field on the right for each term you wish to update. Once you’ve done that, click Save at the top to complete the update.
Now, when a customer activates that language in their booking window, the updates you just made will be displayed to them.
Alternatively, you can make the same changes directly through the feature pages in your account. For example, if you are editing your booking statuses at Manage > Layout > Statuses, you can click on the Translate button in the left sidebar and select the language you wish to edit.
Once in edit mode, enter the translation into the fields provided (1) and click Save Translation in the sidebar when you’re finished (2).
You will find the Translate button on most pages in your account where editable language strings are available for translation.
Booking Page Language Selection
The ability to select a different language from the booking page couldn’t be easier for your customers.
All they have to do is click on the Language link at the top of the page and make their selection from the drop-down menu.
Once they’ve done that, the information on the screen will be magically transformed from say this…
Customer Account Default Language
Customers are able to select a default language for their account by logging in through the booking page and visiting the Account tab.
Now, whenever they log in, the booking page will be automatically displayed in the language of their choice.
Backend System Language
So far, we’ve looked at the option to offer your customers different languages in which to conduct their business. Checkfront also has a system-wide language option for the backend and default front end of your account. This enables you to change the language strings throughout the system, so if your business is based in France, you can set the default translation to French.
The default system-wide language for your account can be configured at Manage > Setup > Locale.
Checkfront offers the ability to have more than one active language at a time and this applies to both the backend and customer facing pages. A customer can configure their own language, if they have an online account with your business, providing the language has been activated by you.
Languages can be managed at Manage > Languages > Checkfront Translations.
You may notice that some of the available languages are not fully translated yet. Or, you may simply wish to word a language string slightly differently. Therefore, you are able to create a private language pack for your account and make whatever changes you like, without affecting other Checkfront customer’s accounts. To do this, click on the language add-ons link as highlighted below.
After clicking on the language add-ons link, you will be presented with the following screen. Click on the Create Private Translation button in the left sidebar to get started.
From the drop-down menu in the resulting pop-up window, select the language you wish to translate and click Create.
The next step is to simply type your translations into the fields within the Value column. You can search for particular language strings using the search box at the top of the list.
