Uploading bulk items

is it possible to upload bulk items from excel to inventory?

Comments

  • Hi NomadGearRentals,

We have an import feature under Inventory -> Items that you can utilize to make the bulk upload of your item setup. It does only work as CSV so you will have to convert the excel file as a CSV file.

We have a specific article in our knowledge base about inventory import that you can read here as well: https://support.checkfront.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007289034-Import-Inventory-Importing-to-Checkfront

I hope this helps! You can also email us at support@checkfront.com for any specific account questions or assistance you may need.

  • Although there is an import feature in CheckFront, it is very limited with what it can do. (or more specifically, what it can't do).

not all parameter of your item can be imported:
    description / more info URL
    media / youtube video
    media / location
Attributes / min & max quantity per booking
Attributes / fixed length (rental duration)
    Attributes / maintenance time
    Attributes / alias to
    Attributes / simple item
Attributes / date based inventory control
Pricing / per booking or per day
    Pricing / tax
    etc etc

you can't create packages (add-on items)
    you can't create parent-child structures
you can't create price structures with price points (as far as I know)

  • Good news is, apparently, if you re-import data for an existing item (ie SKU already existing), it will update it.
(just leave the fields you don't want to update empty)

Checkfront: can you confirm please ?
  • Hello,

    Thank you for the question.

As @Dedric mentioned, it is possible to update existing items using the import tool by matching the SKU column to an existing item SKU. However, please note that all columns from the import will be used to update the item; blank fields will not be ignored. If you use a blank value for a field and still include it in the import, then that field on the item will become blank.

If there are fields that you do not want to update, then you should not include those columns in the import. Also, please note that updating parameters and pricing will not work this way; any parameter that does not have a value included in the import will be removed from the item.

We definitely hope to update the import tool, and future updates to our API may make 'bulk' edits to existing items more feasible. Please keep an eye on our updates page (https://www.checkfront.com/updates) for any new features being released.
