As a tourism business, you might book guests from all over the world. While it’s exciting to meet new travelers and tap into larger markets, selling globally comes with complications and logistics to work through.

With Checkfront, you’re already halfway there. Guests can book whenever they want, whatever time zone. You no longer have to work around the clock and worry about missing a sale. But that’s just one piece of the puzzle.

International guests have different booking expectations. They want to view your listings in their language of choice, and also see the total price in their local currency.

That’s why we’re so excited to announce the launch of Currency Display. Now, you can enhance the booking process for every guest, no matter where they live.

Why local currency matters

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. Would you be willing to book a tour in another country without knowing the actual cost? Even if you’re planning on going to Japan, would a guided hike priced at ¥50,000 mean anything to you right away?

Most travelers hesitate if they’re unable to see a total they understand. According to statistics, 92% of online consumers prefer buying from businesses that display their local currency, and 13% will abandon the cart if it doesn’t. Here are a few reasons why that may be for travelers:

  1. They’re not familiar with your currency when booking in advance, or even in-destination
  2. They don’t want to figure out the conversion on their own
  3. They get distracted when doing the math in their head, on a calculator, or using another website
  4. They don’t know what exchange rate you’ll apply to their transaction

Luckily, Currency Display eliminates the guesswork and reduces friction in the booking process. By giving the option to choose a currency, guests will feel confident hitting the pay button because they have a better idea of the total price. And you’ll see a higher website conversion rate as a result.

How Currency Display works

Once you enable Currency Display in Checkfront, you can select the currency views you want to offer. Just remember your target audience and where they come from — so you don’t leave any currencies out.

On the Booking page, your guests can pick their currency preference using the drop-down menu at the top, similar to how they’d switch languages. They’ll see the price in that currency up to the invoice, even when adding more items on the Create Booking page.

The price is a rounded estimate based on the daily average conversion rate. Because of this, a message will remind guests that all transactions will be in your company’s official currency. For yourself, this means you don’t have to make any changes to your reporting and accounting, and you’ll always get paid what you expect.

Currency Display is available for all Checkfront plans. If you already have an account, follow the detailed activation steps. If not, you can give it a go with our free 21-day trial.
